According to most people I speak with GoDaddy.com is the best place for domain registration & some might say hosting. However, I’ve been completely dissatisfied with there user interface and I’m not all that comforatable with the idea that it looks like Nascar (an event I despise).

As a Rails developer, I have become accustom to the Rails way of simplicity & a better user experience. I’m a follower of the Getting Real philosophy and the 37signals attitude towards design. I already found a beautiful hosting company (MediaTemple). I’d like to find a simpler, yet accommodating domain registrar.

    Here’s the new GoDaddy Refresh:

Am I the only one who thinks it looks like shit? It’s too busy?

Someone needs to follow the jazz sensation Miles Davis and apply it to design…

You might want to check out http://hover.com – its an experiment that we’re working on over here at Tucows Retail Services. We have a long history of building crappy domain registrar websites (www.domaindirect.com for example) and we’re trying to break out of the mold with Hover. We still have some substantial usability issues to cover (notably in the areas of domain transfers) but I’m getting more and more comfortable with the direction we’re moving in with each iteration.

If you have feedback, please be sure to drop me a note to ross@hover.com.

    best,

Thanks for the referral. I’ll definitely test it out.

One of my Facebook friends reminded me that Media Temple also has a pretty slick domain registration solution.

    I’ll will try out both.

I respect you for admitting to building crappy domain registrar websites in the past. However, Hover.com looks beautiful, so it looks like you’re on the right track!

    Thanks,
    Ben

My experience with Hover.com has been horrendous. I’m actually moving my domains from Hover to GoDaddy because it is the better of two evils.

Hover has NO customer service at all, tickets often take over a week to get a response and their software is buggy and untested, to the point where you could register a domain and go through the payment process and the domain not be registered.

Media Temple is far better in my opinion, the only thing they can’t do is register .ca domains, otherwise I’d move to them completely.
